1 December 2011 from Hong Kong!

1 December 2011
Hello Dear Family!

Guess what! I'm in Hong Kong! Crazy, huh? I think so too. But I'm enjoying it. I've only been here two days (you see, I lost my Tuesday, never had it. It's Thursday here. Which is P-day), and they've mostly been a whirlwind, but I am generally happy.

It's really been amazing to come here. Even though it's so completely foreign to me, I am definitely supposed to be here. Yup.

Right, well, I'll tell you the brief story of how I got here. I think I spent approximately seven years on various airplanes. They were very nice airplanes and had some very nice people on them but it was a long time. We had to make sure to sleep on the long ride over so that we could have enough energy when we got here at 10 in the morning on Wed. Regardless, that first day was kind of a blur. A very exciting blur, I'll have you know, but a blur. I think I've never slept so well as I did last night. And I'll have you know that today I feel pretty adjusted, so it was worth it to stay up. Yay!

Well, we rolled into Hong Kong, as I was saying, and we met President and Sister Chan, who are amazing people. Very humble and kind. They took care of us, fed us, oriented us at the mission home, then we all took a trip up to Victoria Peak, which is a very touristy spot. It was cool to see the city, but it was kind of hazy. On the way there and back I talked with about 4 various people. Funny thing is, 3 of them were British. So I could actually talk with them! It was so fun to meet people and just talk. I am learning still how to best bring up the gospel, but I did leave a pass-along card about mormon.org with one person. It was exciting. The thing I'm realizing is that a whole lot of people just have no idea about the Church at all! The whole idea of "kept from the truth because they knew not where to find it" keeps going through my head. Yep.

Well, so, today I got my companion. She is a native from Hong Kong, and speaks very little English. She's really nice and fun, so we get along but it takes a lot of work to talk. I'm excited to learn a lot. Her name is Sister W___. We are serving in the Tsing Yi, Tsuen Wan, and Kwai Fong areas. Three areas! Because there are so few sisters, we cover a lot of ground. I'll be with Sister W___ for about 12 weeks as she trains me, and I'm excited to get started. It's been kinda weird since P-day was the day after I got here, but it's good.

Well, I'm out of time already, but I just want to let you know that I love you all so much! You are so wonderful and your support means a lot to me. I really am happy to be here in this amazing place.

Anyway, I know I'm supposed to be here. I'm amazed at how much I can understand already and at how much I need to learn, all at once. I feel very supported and happy, because the Lord wants me to be here, doing this work.

I love you!

Love,
Sister Nielsen
