Hello Dearest Family, Family Mine!
I love you all. There, I've said it, and now you know it. I'm so grateful to be related to such wonderful people.
Well, I would like to update you on all the lovely things that have been happening lately.
1. Our new summer missionary,Sister Lam, is excellent and things are
going well. Also, serving with Sister Lau is like serving with a ball
of sunshiney joy (and energy), with a British accent and an excellent
sense of humor. We're both a bit quirky and we get along perfectly. I
love being her companion. Plus, she's so ready to go and do everything.
She's a good example to me and I hardly have to train her. So, life is
good.
2. We've had more miracles this week! So, on Monday I was out on a
zone find with Sister Bishop (now in Tuen Mun) and our summer
missionary. We were walking in this park and I saw this 20-odd girl
walking and I knew we had to talk with her. Turns out she's from
Arizona, an ABC, and is about to start a year-long program in China.
This girl, Christy, has lots of friends back in AZ who are Mormon,
including her best friend who is an RM and has been taking her to church
for the past month, and has given her a Book of Mormon! Also took her
to the Mesa Temple to look around. And then she flew to China, leaving
behind her Book of Mormon because her luggage was too heavy....AND THEN
she went on a random walk in the park and found us, and we gave her a
Book of Mormon. She has left already for Mainland China where she can't
get a BoM. I know that this was Heavenly Father's plan for this girl and
that He wants her to have a BoM for this year. It was quite the
experience. She was surprised to see missionaries in Hong Kong, and we
were happy to see her. :)
3.So, it turns out that Apple is back to being our investigator. Her
husband, who is in the stock market, is really busy and doesn't have
time right now to help translate. So we sisters will teach Apple.
Despite the language difficulties, we have a Thai Book of Mormon for
her, so we'll be ok. She calls us to schedule lessons, and is just so
ready to learn and believe. We read one verse 2 Nephi 9:51 at an English
class together (about not spending money on things of no worth) and she
completely changed her shopping habits immediately. Incredible.
Needless to say, her husband supports us seeing her, since he's seen it
change her already. Well, it's the Lord changing her, is what.
4. So, Mimi continues to be amazing, too, and has already read to 1
Nephi 14 on her own. In fact, yesterday evening we saw her and had a
really spiritual lesson together about the gospel of Christ. Then, as we
were walking home, we asked her where she lives...we should never ask
that question. Turns out she doesn't live in our area. So we will have
to turn her over to the Tuen Mun sisters, which is ok. This is the way
it is for a reason, I am sure.
5. Ok, so on Friday, we had a little experience I'd like to share:
We went to a less-active's house to hold an FHE. His family happens to
live quite a ways out of town, rather closer to nature than most Hong
Kongers. We had a really fun little BBQ and shared a quick message, and
right as we were trying to get going but lingering....Sister Lau jumped
up from her chair and started flapping about. Because a foot-long
CENTIPEDE had crawled up her leg. Even the natives were a bit freaked
out. These centipedes are poisonous. But, luckily, no one was hurt, just
emotionally jarred for a bit (don't mention crawly legs to Sister Lau
for a few more weeks). It was Heavenly Father's reminder to us to leave
on time, probably
6. Lastly, the pictures are all from this morning. Our zone got up
at 3 to go for a sunrise hike up a mountain in Tuen Mun. It was so worth
it. I love hiking, I love the grandeur of God's creations, and I love
serving here in HK. The last picture is the shot of the mountain we
hiked. It was so refreshing to separate ourselves from the city just a
bit.
Well, All, I love you a lot. I know that this work is true, and I
know that Heavenly Father loves us. He wants us all to come to know Him.
I love you!
Love,
Sister Nielsen
